The Magic Lantern is one of Britain's most celebrated independent cinemas — a beautifully preserved and lovingly restored picture house in the heart of Tywyn. In 2025 it was awarded the inaugural Cinema of the Year at the British Independent Film Awards (BIFA). The programme combines current releases with independent films, live music, theatre, talks and community events. The bar serves food and drinks, and there is a secluded garden for summer evenings.
