Castell y Bere is one of the most evocative and least-visited castles in Wales. Built by Llywelyn the Great in 1221 in the beautiful Dysynni Valley, it was one of the last Welsh castles to fall to the English. Today its ruins stand in splendid isolation against a backdrop of dramatic mountain scenery, rarely crowded and deeply atmospheric.
