High and low water predictions for Tywyn beach and Cardigan Bay — updated daily from UKHO data.
Tide predictions for Aberdyfi (station 0486) · Source: UKHO EasyTide · Times shown in UK local time
Tywyn sits on the eastern shore of Cardigan Bay, where the tidal range is among the largest in Wales — typically 3 to 5 metres between high and low water during spring tides. This dramatic difference transforms the beach throughout the day, revealing vast stretches of sand at low tide and creating energetic surf conditions as the tide comes in.
Tides in Cardigan Bay follow a semi-diurnal pattern — two high tides and two low tides roughly every 24 hours, with each cycle shifting forward by around 50 minutes per day. The highest tides (spring tides) occur around the full and new moon; the lowest tidal range (neap tides) falls around the quarter moons.
Tide predictions shown here are sourced from the UK Hydrographic Office EasyTide service for Aberdyfi station (0486), approximately 5 miles south of Tywyn. Times and heights are closely representative of conditions on Tywyn beach itself.
Our two beachfront cottages on Cardigan Bay — Four Degrees West and Venedotia — sit directly on the Tywyn promenade, with the beach accessible through your private gate. You can check the tide from your balcony before heading out, and watch the full sweep of the bay from your living room.
Both cottages are steps from the beach — check availability for your dates.
