Borth Beach stretches for around three miles along the Ceredigion coast, sand backed by a pebble storm ridge, with gently shelving water that makes it a genuinely good choice for families with young children. It's a Blue Flag beach with an RNLI lifeguard service through the summer season — a real difference from many beaches in the area, including Tywyn's — plus rock pools and a small slipway at the southern end near the lifeboat station. At low tide look out for the eerie remains of an ancient submerged forest, tree stumps thought to be over 4,500 years old, said in local legend to be the drowned kingdom of Cantre'r Gwaelod, its church bells still said to ring out beneath the waves. Dogs are restricted on the central section by the village between 1 May and 30 September, but are welcome year-round to the north towards Ynyslas. Borth adjoins Ynyslas — genuinely worth treating as two different days out, since Borth has the village, the lifeguards and the submerged forest, while Ynyslas has the dunes and nature reserve.
