Why Stay in Tywyn?

Tywyn is a proper Welsh seaside town on the shores of Cardigan Bay, sitting at the southern edge of Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park, where the mountains of Cadair Idris meet the coast. It's a genuinely well-rounded base for a holiday — beach on one side, mountains on the other, and a working town in between rather than a resort built purely for tourists.

The Talyllyn Railway — the world's first preserved railway — departs from Tywyn Wharf and winds through the Fathew Valley to Dolgoch Falls. Cardigan Bay is also home to one of the UK's largest resident populations of bottlenose dolphins, regularly spotted from the promenade. A little further along the coast, Aberdyfi has one of Wales's finest links golf courses, established in 1892, and inland the Mach Loop draws visitors watching RAF jets fly low through the valley.

Tywyn also has its own railway station on the Cambrian Coast Line, with direct trains from Birmingham — so a car isn't essential if you'd rather arrive by rail.

Sea views across Cardigan Bay are visible from the lounge and balcony at both houses, and Four Degrees West's balcony faces west, catching the sunset directly over the water.

Self-Catering Accommodation in Tywyn

Self-catering suits a Tywyn holiday well — you're not tied to hotel meal times, and with a full kitchen at your disposal you can cook using produce from the local restaurants and shops, or eat out exactly when it suits you. Both houses have a fully equipped kitchen and a welcome pack to help you settle in on arrival, and both are booked direct with the owners — no agency fees or third-party commission added to the price.

Eating Out in Tywyn

Tywyn has a genuinely good local food scene for a small town — Proper Gander for the best restaurant in town, Millie & Sids for brunch and coffee, The Victorian Slipway for sea-view dining on the promenade, and Salt Marsh Kitchen among others. See the full Eat & Drink guide for everything nearby.

Exploring Beyond Tywyn

Aberdyfi, just along the coast across the Dyfi estuary, makes an easy day trip with its own beach and golf course. Inland, Cadair Idris and the wider Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park are within reach for walkers, with the mountains visible from Tywyn itself on a clear day.
