The Mawddach Trail follows a disused railway line along the southern bank of the beautiful Mawddach Estuary, running 9 miles from Dolgellau to Barmouth. The route is traffic-free, almost entirely flat and suitable for all abilities — families, cyclists and walkers alike. The scenery is spectacular throughout, with the Rhinog mountains to the north and the tidal estuary to the south. The trail ends by crossing the famous 800-metre wooden Barmouth Viaduct into town. Bikes can be hired in Dolgellau. The trailhead at Dolgellau is about 18 miles from Tywyn.
