Ynysymaengwyn Park & Woodland

Historic Park & Woodland Walk

20 min walk from your cottage

Ynysymaengwyn was once the finest estate in the parish, home to the Corbet family and later John Corbett, the Droitwich 'Salt King', with a stately mansion set in 40 acres of lawns and woodland. The house was demolished in the mid-20th century and the estate handed to the people of Tywyn, and today the surviving woodland — now a Green Flag Award-winning green space — offers a series of gentle, well-loved walks along the River Dysynni. Look out for the surviving walled garden, tucked away like a secret garden, and the estate's unusual dovecote, one of the few original buildings left standing. It's a genuinely peaceful spot, popular with dog walkers and birdwatchers, with a playground and berries to pick in season. Every October it hosts the Ynysmaengwyn Ghost Walk, one of the area's best-loved community events. Just over a mile from Tywyn along the A493 towards Bryncrug, with parking at the adjoining caravan park.
