Genuinely Pet-Free Self-Catering

Almost every holiday cottage in Britain now advertises itself as dog-friendly, and for good reason — it opens up a large and loyal market. But it has quietly made the opposite thing much harder to find. If you need somewhere that doesn't take animals, the search gets frustrating fast: filters that don't quite mean what you hoped, listings that say "pets by arrangement", and a lot of squinting at photographs looking for a dog bed in the corner.

Four Degrees West and Venedotia are both strictly pet-free, and this applies to all animals. It isn't a per-booking preference or a seasonal rule — it's a standing policy across both properties, and it's one of the main reasons a lot of our guests find us in the first place.

"No Pets This Week" Isn't the Same Thing

This is the distinction that matters, and it's the one most booking sites obscure. A cottage that accepts dogs but happens to have none staying the week before you is not the same as a cottage that never accepts them.

Pet allergens are stubborn. Cat and dog dander is light, sticky and slow to break down, and it settles into carpets, upholstery, curtains and mattresses — where it can remain detectable for months after the animal itself has gone. Ordinary changeover cleaning between guests is designed to deal with dust and dirt, not to strip embedded allergens out of soft furnishings. That's why "we give it a really good hoover" is a genuine effort but not a real answer for someone who reacts badly.

A property with a standing no-animals policy simply never starts accumulating any of it.

Common Questions

Are the cottages really pet-free?

Yes. Both Four Degrees West and Venedotia are strictly pet-free, and this applies to all animals. It's a standing policy across both properties rather than something that varies from booking to booking.

Why does a pet-free holiday cottage matter for allergies?

Pet allergens are sticky and long-lived — cat and dog dander can remain in carpets, upholstery and soft furnishings for months after an animal has left. A property that accepts pets but happens to have none staying this week isn't the same as one that never accepts them at all.

Is there fitted carpet in the cottages?

The open-plan living areas in both cottages have hard flooring rather than fitted carpet, with loose rugs that can be lifted. Hard floors hold onto far less dust and dander than carpet does.

How many people do the cottages sleep?

Both sleep four guests across two bedrooms. Both are beachfront in Tywyn, with sea views over Cardigan Bay and direct access to the promenade and beach.

Where in Wales are the cottages?

Both are on the seafront at Tywyn on the Mid-Wales coast, in Gwynedd, at the southern edge of Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park. Tywyn Wharf — the start of the Talyllyn Railway — is a short walk away, and there's plenty more in our area guidebook.
