The Corris Railway is a small narrow-gauge line in the old slate-quarrying village of Corris, north of Machynlleth. It opened in 1859 to carry slate down towards the Dyfi, closed in 1948, and has since been brought back to life by volunteers, with steam passenger trains running again between Corris and Maespoeth. It shares the Talyllyn Railway's unusual 2 ft 3 in gauge — and two of the Talyllyn's own locomotives, Sir Haydn and Edward Thomas, began life on the Corris. The museum at Corris station tells the story of the line and the quarries it served. Trains run on selected days in season, so check the timetable before setting off. It combines well with King Arthur's Labyrinth and Corris Mine Explorers at the Corris Craft Centre nearby.
