Tal-y-llyn Lake, Llyn Mwyngil in Welsh, is a long glacial lake of around 220 acres lying right beneath the southern crags of Cadair Idris. The drive up from Tywyn on the B4405, past Dolgoch Falls and through Abergynolwyn, is one of the loveliest short drives in the area, and the road runs along the lake shore. It's a beautiful place simply to stop: walk by the water, have a picnic with the mountain reflected in the lake, or pair it with a walk up Cadair Idris from the Minffordd path nearby, or a visit to Castell y Bere in the next valley. The lake is known for its wild brown trout, fished from the bank from April to mid-October, with permits from the Tynycornel Hotel, which owns the lake.
