Zip World Penrhyn Quarry, near Bethesda, is home to Velocity 2 — the world's fastest zip line and the longest in Europe, sending riders flying face-down at speeds of up to and over 100mph across a dramatic former slate quarry and its striking blue lake. There's also Quarry Karts (gravity-powered mountain karts), Aero Explorer, and gentler quarry tours for those wanting a more relaxed look at this UNESCO World Heritage industrial landscape. A genuinely spectacular, adrenaline-filled day out, further afield than most of our recommendations but worth the drive for thrill-seekers.
